Pūniu River Care auditProject Status: Current
Tāne’s Tree Trust (TTT) has been commissioned by Pūniu River Care (PRC) with funding from the Waikato River Authority to fund a two-year audit of three sites planted by the River Care group this year (2024). The total area is approximately 10 hectares, spread across three planting sites. Each site needs auditing for survival, early growth and health over two years. TTT will undertake three field assessments as follows:
- Mid-2024 – baseline measurement of plots established across three sites
- Mid-2025 – first year remeasurement of plots
- Mid-2026 – final year remeasurement of plots.
The standard TTT plot-based monitoring tool will be used to sample planted natives at each site, and analyse and interpret data as appropriate. The baseline measurement has been completed on three south Waikato properties planted with mānuka and kānuka as a nurse, and interplanted with tōtara. Brief interim reports will be provided for the first two measurements and a final year assessment with recommendations provided after the final measurement.
