Myrtle rust confirmed in Auckland

MPI have confirmed that myrtle rust has been found in Waimauku, West Auckland.

AGM reminder

This is a reminder that Tāne’s Tree Trust are holding their AGM at 1pm on Saturday 4th November in Masterton. We are holding this during the NZ Farm Forestry Action Groups Weekend “Native trees for all reasons and all seasons”.

Planting for posterity

Here is a link to an interesting article by Radio NZ -

More than 50 years ago, Jaap and Sue Van Dorser cleared and then planted up a small section of the Awahou Stream which flows into Lake Rotorua. Then, 23 years ago, they were joined by another couple.

Since then the crew has worked together every Wednesday morning, clearing and planting the riverbanks.

Important update on Myrtle Rust

We recently received this from Project Crimson:

There are now 32 confirmed finds of myrtle rust: with 25 in Taranaki, 3 in Northland and 2 in Waikato.

The affected properties include private gardens, plant nurseries and retailers, a golf course and an orchard.
