Species profiles
Timber trees of the future
Information on the characteristics and past and current use of the major indigenous timber trees of New Zealand is provided for those interested in planting and managing these species for multiple purposes, including the long term option as a specialty timber resource. Most of these have been authored by the founding chair and trustee of Tāne’s Tree Trust, Ian Barton.
These articles have been published in past issues of the TTT newsletters. In addition to the distribution and ecology of each species, the focus includes information on timber properties, potential for establishment and management, and research requirements.
Species listed include both indigenous conifer and tree hardwood species.
