Field Trials and Projects

The Trust is rejuvenating two planting trials in the Hunua Ranges. These mainly involve kauri, with some rimu plantings in one area, and were established in the 1970's to study the effects of fertiliser, light and nurse plants on native tree establishment.

The Trust has been providing advice to support trial work at AgResearch's Whatawhata Research Centre. Within the context of a whole-catchment management project, a restoration project covering 15 ha includes plantings of kauri, totara, rimu and beech. Monitoring of tree growth is continuing, since planting in 2001.
