What we have done - at a glance!

In only 10 years we have:

  • Held two national conferences that were hugely successful including published proceedings.
  • Run dozens of regional workshops from Kaitaia to Invercargill on best practice for establishment and management of native trees and shrubs.
  • Supported and added to the highly successful Scion publication series New Zealand Indigenous Tree Bulletins.
  • Supported research including nursery production of cheaper native trees, planting trials on a range of sites, management of established plantations, silviculture of naturally-regenerating stands.
  • Produced numerous Tāne's Tree Trust publications, technical reports.
  • Established an on-line archive of historical research and management on planted indigenous forest with search capability.

And what do we continue to do – at a glance!

  • About to publish the first phase of a comprehensive Technical Handbook on planting and managing native trees – our flagship publication!
  • Setting up further national databases on native plantations – bibliography on planted indigenous forestry, nationwide indigenous plantation database.
  • Publishing Trust Newsletters three times annually.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive website – www.tanestrees.org.nz
  • Current projects on surveying existing plantations, publication of the next NZ Indigenous Tree Bulletin on the beech species.
  • Continuing to lobby for greater recognition of natives in regional and central government regulations from carbon sequestration to removing taxation and legal impediments.
